Getting Business Done

This Friday, I woke really wanting to go to the shelter, but I just couldn't decide. It was oh so muddy and it was raining on and off. I was contemplating just going and getting shelter items for donation...but my heart one and I ended up at the shelter...mud and rain prepared. I knew that no one else would be there so I really wanted to get all the dogs in and out and focus on doing their business instead of love and fun. There wasn't any dry places for much love to go down anyway. When I got there I was surprised to find every single kennel occupied and all dogs were 5months +  This means all needed to go out. Usually, there are a few empty kennels and a few under 5 month kennels...but not on this oh so muddy and wet day. So, I decided to get down to business and get these pups out. The weather came in waves and I did my best to get them out there, make sure they knew someone cared about them that day, get some business done, and get them back in their kennel as dry and mud free as possible. I was worried that some would be completely against the whole drying off process and some didn't care for it...but so many dove into the towel and rolled and rooted and loved it. It was adorable.

But, like I said it was quick visits for each so if I had not already met them...we didn't get much face time. However, I did get 27 dogs outside and that was a great feeling!!!!!

Here are the dogs I saw today:

I started with Cucumber who is a Male Sharpei Mix. I saw him last visit but someone else walked him. I was for certain he wouldn't be here this week...I mean a Sharpei in a shelter? He is really sweet and really cute...I loved his wrinkles!!!!

Then I moved on to Gina or GG who was the typical black female shelter dog. Sweet as can be and full of energy. I think she is one of my favorites. I just love her little head!

Next in line was Laurel a hound mix who is just a little short thing and he is bouncy as can be. I mean he can jump and is more than full of energy. He had a pending adoption tag so I am hoping he has found a forever home!!!

Toby was this adorable fluffy black and white something. I mean hair everywhere!!! Not the best combo with the rain and muddiness. This sweet baby completely opened up to be when it was time to dry off. He went crazy and loved being loved on and wiped down. He was really adorable with his little brown eyes peaking out of all of his hair.

Then there was this little white as can be female, Snow White. She was so cute and had a beautiful coat. I think she will be taken home very soon.

And then sweet Star. Now why Star was still there I have no clue. He is beautiful and so unique with his white as can be coat and light little spots on just his ears and one blue and one brown eye. They say he is pointer hound mix but to me he looks like a white skinny lab. He is just beautiful.  He has a really sweet personality too. I enjoy spending time with Him but definitely want to see him go to a home soon.

Then I moved on to a hound/lab mix named Angel. She was cute as a button but a little wild...not sure her name was a good fit ;-)

Then there was Granola this black little terrier mix who I loved her little face...I just wanted to eat her up. She insisted on some face time which also included us head butting and chin butting a few times. I definitely left with some bruises this trip but I think they were worth it.

Then it was Deuce's turn. I really love him because once you get him outside, especially in the grass he loves to roll over and get his belly rubbed. He is so cute. He also like face time and he will just jump up let you hold his front legs and just stare into your eyes. He just wants love. He is pretty high energy and I slipped and fell a few times with him today...but I just love him. I hope he gets a great home soon!!!

Chow Chow is another one I have grown quite found of. He is really fluffy and has this amazing coat...its like a furry brindle if there is such a things. The colors in his coat are just really cool. He is a big barker in the kennel, especially when he sees you take someone else, but once you get him outside he is so gentle and sweet. I hope people come see him and get him out and see how great he really is.

Sweet Maggie was next and I just love her name and her little face she is some time of medium sized terrier mix. I always forget how much energy she has until I get her outside. But she is so adorable.

Perry quickly became one of my favorites. I don't know what it is about those black mixes...maybe knowing they have a harder time being unique and getting adopted...I don't know...but I have fallen in love with a lot of those black faced black eyed babies. Perry is Bailey's size and has this curly tail. He is just a sweet little in your face lover. And I am so happy to say that he was adopted by the time I got to writing this. So I am thrilled for him and thankful for his new family.

Trouble was this little baby that was just trembling when I acted like I was going to get him out. So I went in the kennel and sat down and just let him get comfortable with me before we went out. He was far from trouble and was sweet and shy. Hopefully he will get a little more use to shelter life, but it would be even better if he was just taken home soon!

Shasta was a very sweet, pretty Aussie Mix. I didn't get to know her very well since we were in and out but she was a very good girl.

Mable is a hound/terrier mix who is just a mess. She acts so mean in her kennel to other dogs...bark bark bark. You get her outside and she is the happiest little girl. She is a leash puller/biter. So that needs some work...but she is really cute so hopefully that will win her a family soon!!!

Cooper was a beautiful hound mix...just classic man's man dog. What you would see in the movies. Whenever I get a hound out I am always ready to be pulled away...especially when they are over 50lbs. But he was really great. I got a little bit of a fast walk with him, but he was really great. He will make someone a really good hunting partner...or front porch dog.

Whiskey was a little bit of a handful being a terrier/mastiff mix he had the size and strength on me. He got a little crazy with me and we had to go inside after our business was done. If I had a little more time that day and better weather conditions I would have liked to work with him a little more on his walking manners.

Jack was a really cute lab mix and I just love the name Jack so I was happy to find a sweet cute face behind that name tag. He was so sweet and fun to get some quick outside time with.

Then there was cute Minnie who I had previously met. She does have the cutest face being doberman/hound mix she has the doberman tan markings on her chocolate coat and its really pretty. She is a medium sized dog with lots of ground sniffing hound energy.

Phoenix was next and originally I thought he had been adopted because I some how missed him last week. But he was there and omg he was so funny. He literally rolled all the way down the hill on our way back in. He had so much fun playing outside in the wet grass and just as much fun getting cleaned up which was nice. He is this big hound almost bull dog looking thing...just thick as can be and at first glance you could think he might be a little mean but oh he has the sweetest little heart.

Then there was Thomas a sweet Aussie Mix who reminded me of Terry the puppy. Thomas was a hugger and a fluffy fluffy hugger. He was so sweet and definitely enjoyed his one on one time. Someone needs to grab that sweet boy and take him home for lots of hugs.

By this time in the day I was really getting ready to go home. I was stinky and hot and tired and hungry...but I knew there were just a few more sweet babies that deserved to get their time outside so I continued on.

I then grabbed Ziva who was a tiny little skinny thing...she had to have some time of short haired chihuahua in her.She had these skinny little legs and was really sweet and cute but I am learning more and more I just have a thing for those big dogs :-)

Then there was this sweet little baby that seemed fairly new because her name card had not been made yet but her name was Snowie and I don't know what she was but she was probably about 25lbs and really sweet. She got her business done...short and sweet.

Then there was this sweet little black lab mix Sadie who had a cone on :-( I was very nervous about taking her out but a employee told me it was fine and she went nuts outside. I expected her to be calm...ummm nope! But she was really good she was just really ready to be cone free.

Last but not least in the back was Waldo. He was fairly new too because his name card had not been complete yet either. But he was a Moutain Curr/Shepherd Mix. And was just the typical tan big shelter dog. He was very leggy and sweet. I hated that he had to wait so long on me to get to him.

At this point the exit was looking very appealing, those pups kicked my butt...but I knew there was some sweet pups up front that might need some outside time too.

So I grabbed Pete from one of the front rooms. Pete is a Coonhound Mix and has the tan markings on his face and is just so pretty and so sweet. He is a calm in your face lovey little guy. I hated leaving him. I like sitting in the front rooms with them. It is so quiet up there and they just want to love. I wish they had a few more spot light rooms so a few more could get star treatment.

The other front spot light room housed Romeo and Pepper Jack who have become great friends. They were even Spotlight on Channel 4's More at MidDay together. They are completely adorable. Romeo had already been taken out so I grabbed Pepper Jack. Romeo started barking take me too!!!! Pepper Jack and I walked everywhere and no peeing was happening. After 10 mins or so I return that sweet little girl to her room just to have her pee in the door way on their blanket. I felt horrible but Kenny said that is quite common with that little girl. Rumor is that Romeo has taught her how to walk on a leash and that she does better with him. So lesson learned and what a way to end my visit cleaning up pee. That's okay tho...she is cute enough to make up for it.

Good Luck all you sweet pups out there!!!!!
