Thrilled!!!!

If you have been reading you know that each week I have been spending some time walking some great dogs at The Nashville Humane Society. One of my most favorite, favorites is a dog named Harpeth, a three year old male Aussie Mix.

Hi, I'm Harpeth. I've lived with other dogs and children as young as 11. Being a cattle dog, I would do best with an active family, who loves being outside as much as I do. I'm a happy guy with the cutest ears and can't wait to meet you. I walk well on the leash, enjoy car rides & love peanut butter.
I loved him from the begging because of his gentleness, sweetness, and happy personality. He is three and I was so afraid that him not being a puppy would make finding his furever home a little more difficult. He was always the dog that I was so happy to see when I walked in the door but was always hoping he wouldn't be there too. Last week NHS spotlighted him in hopes that his new family would find him that much faster. Last Friday I really thought he was leaving when a sweet elderly couple came in and fell in love with him, but sadly it didn't work out.

Here is his being spotlighted about to head to do a TV segment....More at Midday

Yesterday, I didn't get to walk him but I spent some time with him in the front room. He was up there again being in the spotlight. Harpeth knows how to sit well, shake and is so fun to just love on. He is a hugger :-) Yesterday my last few minutes at the shelter were spent with him and I told him that his knew family would come get him soon and it would be great. The last words I said to him were you are going home soon Harpth and you are gonna love it.

Today I was over joyed when I saw this on facebook:
Sweet Harpeth got adopted today! He went home with his sister who is hiding on his new Dad's side. Congratulations Harpeth!

Harpeth I will never get to see you again but I am so so happy for you. You deserve to have a sister and a wonderful family!!!! Enjoy your Furever home sweet boy!!!!!

A Great Day At The Shelter

Today was so so beautiful!!!! Today I got to spend some really good time with some really great dogs!!!!

Today I spent time with:

Carlin

Deuce

Layla: She is becoming one of my favorites. She is a beautiful brindle and gets really excited when you first let her out...but she is one of the best hill side cuddlers there is. She will just sit with me and lean into me and love on me. I can't believe no one has taken her home yet. She is one of the ones remaining that has been here since before me :-( I love you Layla!!!

Lots of new faces today...and that means turn over!!!!

Not pictured:  Bordeaux, Scout, Casey, Short Stuff, Ruby, Pheonix and Rome who was a pup

Before I left for the day I stopped by the front room where my good friend Harpeth was being showcased. I loved on him for a bit. We did hugs and hand shakes. I told him his forever family would be there soon and I sure hope I am right!!!!

How can you resist this face!?!?!?!

Another Friday

I had another great day at the shelter. This Friday there were a lot of new dogs. I didn't walk some of the new ones but it is great to see that the turn over rate is pretty good there. Some of the ones that I love I want them to find their furever home so bad...so I am very hopeful for them and always try to showcase them well if there are possible adopters on the property.

Friday the 17th I played with these babies:

Coco

Layla

Maggie

Marcus

Mickey

Taylor

Not Pictured: Susie, Charlie, Sugar, Bordeaux, Ruby

Bordeaux is this huge white and tan Lab who is 7 and is so awesome. He is gentle and loves to go outside and holds it til you take him out so every time you take him he does his business...even if I take him twice during my 2 hour stay. I can't believe he is at the shelter. I really hope his age doesn't hurt him in finding his forever home. I wish I had a picture of him...he is awesome! Good Luck Bordeaux!

Still not old enough for trips outside are Carlin and Joleen who I played with in their kennels today.

5:25pm 10 hrs 46 mins 24 secs

Today my last day of no work :-( Yes I enjoyed my Staycation very very much...I looked out the window and the sun was still shining and it was just after 5pm. I was so excited!!! Today the sunset at 5:25pm and I am so thankful for the days getting longer. Today was a whopping 10 hrs 46 mins 24 secs! That means that much closer to Spring and that many more long walks in the daylight with my pups!

It has definitely gotten cold this month...we have really missed out on the winter weather which I love...until this week. Hopefully, February will past quickly and March will be nice and then April will be here with real Spring weather!!!!

Yes I absolutely hate the dark and cold!!!

My Hours Are Adding Up!!!!

I have continued to really enjoy my volunteer time at the dog shelter. I have been trying to go every Friday from 10 to 12. This past week since I was on Vacation I went Wed & Thurs instead. Each day is a little different...some times there are other volunteers there...and I have to remember to be flexible and appreciate that there are others there to help and realize that takes some pressure off me. I hate to leave there knowing someone didn't get some time outside.

Here are some of the sweetest faces that I got to visit with on Wednesday:

 I walked and played with:

Dixie Doo who has tons of energy and loves to sniff the ground and hunt

Harpeth my sweet amazing gentle little boy friend. He has stolen my heart I love him!!!

Layla who is just cute as can be...I know she has a bit of a pit look...but brindle with white socks and sweet as can be. She is the best leaner/hugger!!!! I love her!!!!

Marcus has so much energy another one of those ground sniffing hunting dogs

Mickey he is so unique looking I don't know where he came from. His crazy energy make me laugh...he is high on life

Taylor she is just so sweet this picture of her reminds me of my Bailey

Not Pictured: Susie, she is a firecracker. Really cute but she is a puller and can be a bit nippy. She is a small dog and I never expect the high crazy energy out of her. The best place to take her is the pin and just let her run..cause that she does so well and she just runs her little heart out. Sweet little Mozarella is this cute little tan pup that is just so sweet. She is a young little thing. Emma I also walked and she is this hound looking Mix who is another ground sniffer. Then there is Laker...
He is a 5 month old black lab that is the most adorable thing ever. I know he will be scooped up just any minute. He is one of my favorite little guys to spend time with...those sweet little labs just get me...especially the boys!!!

After walking the big dogs I spent some time with the young ones in their rooms...the are still a bit young for outside time...but soon they will be old enough.

Atlanta

Ashley

Mudbug

Pepper Jack

Weebles Gracie

Not Pictured: Brady...and let me tell you he was the cutest little boxer, brown mix baby ever!!!!

Then Thursday I went back and saw Marcus, Harpeth, Layla, Mickey, Taylor, Laker, Mozarella again.

I also saw

Daisy she is in the hound hunting ground sniffing bunch...there is alot of those at the shelter right now it seems. They are so great to get out because you can tell how much they are in there element.

Honey she looks sweet and mostly is...but she is got a little sass to her. She and I had an argument over a stick once. I eventually one but not without her telling me like it was

Maggie...sweet maggie. This is a great picture of her she is cute as can be and so happy. She is a bit silly on the leash...she is a leash biter when you first get her out...then she chills out and is a really good walker

Morgan Morgan Morgan. She was my first to walk at the shelter. So she will always have a special place in my heart. I originally picked her first cause she was bouncing all over her kennel and just looked like she was too much to handle. Yes I know that is why I picked her and she does have alot of energy. I haven't gotten to walk her every time I have been there...but she is getting so much better about walking on the leash. She has always been a sweet heart and she is still a bit bouncy when she thinks you are gonna pick her. But she has become so gentle. I hope this behavior will score her a wonderful home soon!

Not Pictured: Ruby. I really wish I had a picture of Ruby it always helps me remember them even better. Ruby is a black little pit looking girl. So she is probably listed as some type of terrier lab mix. She has these sweet gentle eyes and is just as cute as a button...all black I really like her I think she will disappear from here before I know it.

And I spent time with Carlin who is still a pup!!!! Carlin caught my eye immediately cause he was always chilled out every time I passed his kennel. Can't wait til he is old enough to get outside.

I loved being able to go back to back days...Next Friday seems way too far away!!!!!

A Starter!!!

The other day my Mommy happily gave me a amish friendship bread starter. My Grandmother and Aunt use to make this amazing bread and I wish so much I could ask them what their secret was. But, I am very excited about my attempt to see if I can come close. The bread was just plain bread...no flavor...and not sweet...so I am really hoping I can figure it out. I had to search a bit for the perfect recipe and I think I found it.

The bread turned out yummy and very close to what I was hoping for. I have a feeling we will be eating more bread than normal for the next few weeks.

My 2nd Day at NHS

It was a Friday so I headed the the shelter to see some of those great pups. I didn't walk as many dogs as I had hoped...alot had been walked...which is always good.

Here is who I loved on and walked with today:
( I have pictures of all...which I love!!!)

Daisy: she is a nose to the ground kind of dog

Darla: she has the sweetest little feminine face

Emmett: is a sweet tiny little thing that has so much energy

Harpeth: definitely a reoccurring favorite. This pup is definitely waiting for a very special home.

Mickey: he is so unique looking and let me tell you...he has some crazy energy!

Carlton: another gentle spirit who is so loving!

Terry is beautiful. He is now old enough for me to get outside...and he still just wants to hug!!!

I can't begin to express how much I love my time spent with these dogs.
It is so nice to be able to do something for others and enjoy it so much!!!!
